About Jen

Growing up with an outdoor adventurer for a father and a poet for a mother gifted Jen with a deep sense of connection to wild spaces.  She spent her childhood sailing the Great Lakes and exploring the wilderness areas of Michigan and Ontario.  Cool waters and crashing waves became a thrilling call to action.  In contrast, moss filled forests and tranquil landscapes became a place to imagine hidden wonders inside every nook and cranny.  Jen continues to see the natural world through the wondrous eyes of her childhood and incorporates that sense of poetic beauty into her photography.

Jen is based out of Big Sky, Montana along with her supportive husband and three adventurous children. Together, they roam the backroads and wilderness areas of Montana, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and Washington.  As a student of Montana State University’s School of Film and Photography, Jen explores both analogue and digital processes with the same enthusiasm she has for outdoor adventure.  The common thread that weaves through all of her work is the humbleness of the human experience within the vastness of the American West.

“A poet ought not to pick nature's pocket. Let him borrow, and so borrow as to repay by the very act of borrowing. Examine nature accurately, but write from recollection, and trust more to the imagination than the memory.”

   – Samuel Taylor Coleridge
